One month only?

Taken from theStar's article;

"The Government will install closed-circuit televisions (CCTVs) in major cities next year, said deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Hamzah Zainudin. He said the "mobile" CCTVs, which can rotate 360 degrees, would be able to record objects about 200 metres away and the records could be kept for a month. We will install the 'mobile' CCTVs together with 496 CCTVs in major cities including Kuala Lumpur, Malacca and Penang soon. The first phase, costing RM75mil, is expected to completed by April next year."

What? Records could be keep for a month? Haha.. almost laughable!

And then you read on, 496 CCTVs for RM75million. That's like RM150K per CCTV. No mention of the bidding process although I'll love to get my hands on this project!

Self-gratification

I feel like I wanna puke when I see such self-gratification banners. Are these two clowns a subject of local domestic travel destinations or they part of a circus coming to town? If not, why do they appear on these banners? It's just a sheer waste. It happened in the previous ministry where the lady minister was, and now it's happening in this new ministry. Too bad the other monkey hasn't realized it, or just maybe he pretend to buat bodoh.

Just 10%?

Ok, I may be late in saying this. But before that, let's get the picture. Due to recent petrol hike from RM1.92/litre to RM2.70/litre (40.7% jump), the government announced some cut-cutting measures.

TheStar reported that the government is putting up a plan to cut-cost that will save RM2billion. Part of this plan was to slash 10% of the monthly entertainment allowances which enjoyed by all ministers. In the report, it says that the Prime Minister currently enjoys a monthly entertainment allowance of RM18,865 while his deputy gets RM15,015. Other ministers and deputy ministers are given RM12,320 and RM6,000, respectively.

To begin with, I think there are more than half of Malaysian are earning below RM6k in their monthly income. A quick look at the number of ministers (source: mycen), there are about 31 ministers and 37 deputy ministers. Now let's adds up RM18,865 + RM15,015 + (31 * RM12,320) + (37 * RM6,000) = RM637,800 monthly entertainment expenses. 10% of it would be RM63,780. Multiply that amount to 12months, you'll get RM765,360. This sum only represents 0.039% of RM2b. I don't really know if it makes a difference and how RM2b was arrived at... or maybe I was just plain wrong with my calculations.

On the other hand, these 70 ministers are eligible to claim RM574,020 as entertainment allowances. Multiply that to 12months, the sum will arrived at RM6,888,240. That is close to RM7million.

So, now we know 10% is just a symbolic cost-cutting measure. It is out of proportion to reduce 10% of entertainment allowances while fuel prices surge 41%. Besides these entertainment allowances, I am sure these 70 daylight penyamun were given petrol or vehicle allowances as well. Who's still the winner at end of the day? Yes, it is those buggers, who asked you to change your lifestyle so that they can go for their holidays paid by you and I.

VRF by our own elected representatives. Clear as the sky.

Those morons from DBKL

These are huge 6 foot trash bins collected from the public DBKL flat nearby. Each flat has six of these. Multiply that with 3 flats, you'll get 18 of these 6 foot trash bins. Yes, it's very messy and foul. The foul air can reach as far as one kilometer in diameter. Worst when it's a hot day when these trash (and whatever in it) starts to rot and decompose rapidly. Even worst when there is gusty wind or just slow breeze, the reach of these foul air gets wider and further. If you're living 50metres away, you're probably immune to these bad stench. Frankly, I don't know how people who lived 50metres away could bear it. It's like living in an unclean, heavily used yet not flushed toilet. Yes, it could be that bad. I think it was like that for many years.

Many years gone past. Some planning authorities had an idea to build a storage building to house these foul stench trash bins. It's probably cost not more than 100k to build such building. Moreover, it can be use for many years. It was a good idea, but they're probably forgot why they built it. Instead of using the trash storage building, the trash are still kept in open air. Just like many years ago.

There are even three schools and a surau nearby. All within a stone's throw away. There are about 204 houses in each flat with at least 4 flats nearby this rubbish dump. Imagine having these 816 households to bear the foul stench of these rotting rubbish.

In this part of the city, rubbish and wastage does go together. When I said wastage, I am referring to the people that are sleeping on their jobs while others have to bear and receive the brunt of their rubbish work.

Time Tower

You can find this Time Tower along Jalan Mahameru, somewhere in between PWTC and Parliament building.

Honestly, who doesn't have a watch with him/her. Moreover, most cars are equipped with a digital clock either on the dashboard or on the radio display. Additionally, many folks have mobile phone that comes with a digital clock as well. This country doesn't even have a day-light savings adjustments to begin with. Time is constant in this country.

And then, in a tropical country where we enjoy constant temperature all year, does it matter to common folks how accurate the temperature is? 'Weather' it is 24C or 28C, it just doesn't matter. Just turn on CNN, Kuala Lumpur's temperature is always between 24C to 33C depending the time of day. To add insult, I think the temperature shown above
on the Time Tower is highly inaccurate. On a hot sunny midday, it's showing 25C. Even a 3 year old kid will tell you that it is obviously above 30C.

I think it is a total waste of taxpayer's money to built such thing as there are no real value-add/cost-benefits or justification to the cost of building and maintaining such structure. I'll be glad to hear from DBKL officers to tell me otherwise!

My experiences going to 7-11

Seven good reasons why going to 7-11 is such a pain.

1. they don't initiate the effort to greet you.
2. they don't have the energy to smile to you.
3. they don't know the meaning of being courteous with good manners that goes together.
4. they don't have the mood to answer your questions.
5. they don't answer your questions intelligently.
6. they don't make you feel that you are welcomed.
7. they don't like doing business with you.

These are good reasons enough for me to make a u-turn.

Orders for new cars cancelled but there was glut elsewhere...

TheStar reported that the new Penang government has cancelled an order for five new Perdana V-6 cars worth RM623,000 which were ordered by the previous administration for its exco members.

That's RM623,000 for 5 new Perdana V-6, which means each Perdana would cost about RM124,600. The Proton website listed the car at RM101,500.25. That's RM23,000 difference for each car!! That is a lot of money to 'refurbish' the car!!

These order were cancelled but there was more glut elsewhere...

I drove by DBKL's HQ at Jalan Raja Laut and there were at least 25 brand new Nissan XTrail 2.5 liter under DBKL's vehicle fleet. The local Nissan website listed each of these 4WD SUV at RM144,000. With 25 brand new SUV, these fleet would easily cost RM3.6 million. That's crazy!

Here are my questions to DBKL.

1) Why would DBKL need such luxury SUVs? Why SUV in the first place? Why not just plain Perdana or any national car so that there will be less monetary outflow from the country?
2) Why do they need to purchase a 2.5L car when a 2.0L or less will be much more better choice for efficient use of fuel consumption?
3) How does these SUVs fits in DBKL's or Government's role and responsibility when these government agencies are asking city folks to take public transportation and car pooling to lessen traffic on the road?

I am not against upgrading or modernization of DBKL's vehicle fleet, but the manner and choice of these expenses that could have been better managed on assets that have lower maintenance and fuel consumption cost. Don't you think so?
