Parking at pedestrian pavement

There are seriously something wrong with our local enforcement. No amount of traffic education (or rehabilitation) are sufficient unless these guys are punished with their wallets.

Just another FORM of Rempits... a uniformed ones.

I was driving along Mahameru Highway, just behind the National Muzium, on a working day around 9.15am. Traffic was breeze at first, and then it hits almost at halt with traffic slowing down. What did you know.. there are a bunch of Learner's license uniformed bikers, i reckon 20 of them occupying 2/3 of the three lane highway, one the most right lane. They were moving like 50kmph. The max speed allowable on the highway was 80kpmh. Yes, they were moving at 50kmph on the most right lane. Isn't that the overtaking lane? Moreover, the 'leader' of the pack is asking all other vehicles to slow down and move on the left 'slowest' lane. Not only they are putting themselves at risk to potential accidents, they're putting other motorist in danger as well.

Would there be any other names or distinct comparison with the illegal rempits? I don't think so. Now, this is what I call.. uniformed rempits.

Isn't there a motorbike lane somewhere?

If you drive along Federal Highway often, you may find these pictures a familiar sight.

Yes, by the way, isn't there an existing motorbike lane parallel to the main road? Maybe these guys find office work boring.

DBKL is not doing anything about public buses that are obstructing the traffic.

The commercial public buses, especially Metro & Permata Kiara, that plies along Setapak-Jalan Genting Kelang are such a nuisance for other motorists. Not only these buses produces intolerable fumes that the authorities doesn't seem to care about, these buses are obstructing the traffic flow by stopping by the roadside to their whims and fancies. Sometimes these traffic goes standstill as far as 1 km. To make the matter worst, the authorities (DBKL, traffic police and JPJ) seems to turn an eye blind on this. In fact, I have made an official complaint via htp://www.dbkl.gov.my e-aduan. It has been more than a month since I made an official complain to DBKL and, to-date I have not receive any official reply nor I see any visible or drastic action taken. All the e-aduan website says that the complaint have been forwarded to another anonymous 'Jabatan' (see below). Do i really care where is the complaint forward to? I just wanted to know what are the resolutions are. Yeah, this is the usual passing-the-buck in-your-face and there-is-nothing-more-that-you-can-do-about-it when you deals with DBKL.

Every morning, I have to bear the brunt of these bad traffic. It doesn't matter if I get stuck for 10 or 20minutes, the point is that these buses are obstructing the traffic. Apparently this problem isn't new. Read more here.

A MalaysiaKini reader has this to say:

"To be brutally honest, I have nothing but contempt for the urban bus services offered by Metrobus and I know that many people would agree. Their buses clog the streets of Kuala Lumpur and suburban areas, especially in the city centre around Central Market and the Kota Raya complex. Their drivers are reckless, driving at excessive speeds and taking risks with passenger safety. Many of their buses are old and poorly maintained, and belch putrid black smoke. Overall, Metrobus operations are unreliable and they give public transportation a bad name.

On the other hand, the operations of Metrobus are just a symptom of the rot that has been created in public transportation. I have made my feelings clear about the CVLB. If you want to know why more Malaysians do not use public transportation, you need to look no further than the CVLB. It is the CVLB that grants huge numbers of permits to these bus companies and does not enforce the rules that it sets out. It is the CVLB that continues to allow these bus companies to use unsafe buses. It is the CVLB that allows the companies to hire reckless and dangerous bus drivers to operate their buses and pay them unbelievably low wages. It is the CVLB that continues to grant operations permits to drivers with multiple summonses."

Useless agencies.

There are more of these pictures from my previous posting.

Emergency lanes

This is quite common scene when you drive around Federal Highway. There are cars especially taxis taking advantage of the the emergency lane when other lanes are clogged up with heavy traffic. Just take a look below.

Someone even blogs about it with TheStar. Road Safety Department director-general Suret Singh told reporters in his press conference recently that emergency lanes were meant for the use of authorities such as the fire and rescue department, police and ambulance, which provide services during emergencies.

What he didn't say is that it is not illegal to use these lanes. Only that these lanes are reserved for emergency purposes. Anyone knows?

Plaza Damas: Self-Pay Machine

Supposed you buy some goods and when you are about to pay with your Ringgit notes, the cashier rejects your legal tender perfect notes. How would you feel? I think your brain/head will probably boiled over 1000°C.

Bank Negara Malaysia in its website states, "The value of ringgit is legal tender and is backed by gold and foreign exchange held by Bank Negara Malaysia. Legal tender means the ringgit is recognised by law for settling of a debt or paying for goods and services within the country."

So when all Ringgit notes are recognized by the law as legal tender for settling of paying services within the country, then why does this self-pay machine located in Plaza Damas Parking Bay-2 does not recognize RM5 ringgit notes for the last 6 months? Last 6 months is a lot of time to fix whatever the problem is.

It seems that the management of Plaza Damas are not interested to rectify this issue any sooner though. To add further insult, this self-pay machine does not issue any receipts!

Yes, this problem has been ongoing 'moment' for the last 6 months as of this writing. What a bummer!

Napping on dangerously

If you think being a rubbish collector is a safe and no-brainer's job, then you're half-wrong.

If you can't see him, try clicking on the picture.

I was driving along Jalan Kuching today and caught this picture with a guy napping dangerously on a moving Alam Flora's rubbish collection truck. I pity this guy. Not only his poor guy had to suffer the stench of the rubbish (and what not) and lowly paid scheme, he has to sit/squat dangerously on a truck that is not meant for such. Not to mention the heat generated from the truck's engine and exhaust, there are some mechanical movement that is part of the engine that can rip a body to pieces at where he was sitting.

It is an accident waiting to happen, clear as a day. I hope Alam Flora buys insurance for their employees especially for this course of work. I hope there's a union to fight for these guys, otherwise, i think they ought to form one. Else, go to this ministry to seek for these worker's justice.

I don't know if this applies to this situation but try to check out Malaysia's National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health website.

Law enforcers breaking the law

I was in Bukit Bintang area last Saturday morning and I drove pass this truck while looking for a legitimate parking near KL Plaza. What I don't understand is why does a truck from DBKL parked on a walkway? Is that walkway made specially for DBKL truck to park?

It's not really like life-and-death situation that these law enforcer were in anyway. You can see these men in uniform were just chatting around and take a peek at who was walking by. And this person in the second picture below was forced to walk on the roadside instead of the walkway, away from the truck, possibly to avoid any potential accident coming from the truck.

Are there any provisions in the local by-law that allows DBKL to be exempted from 'any' laws while on 'official duty'? Is this a case where the priority of discharging 'official duty' are placed above the law? And now I know why 10 out of 11 parliamentary seats in the city are from the opposition parties. The public is just frustrated with DBKL inefficiencies!!
